ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst University women's tennis team, coming off shutout wins in the last two contests, ended up on the wrong end of a shutout against California (Pa.), falling 9-0 to the Vulcans. The loss dropped the Lakers' record to 9-5 on the season and 1-3 in PSAC West play.
Caroline Bristol and
Rebecca Haener each came close in the No. 1 and No. 3 match, but came up short against Matina Rubesova (6-3, 6-0) and Jade Pondicas (6-0, 6-3) respectively. Meanwhile,
Taylor Wedlake and
Courtney Conway were the closest Mercyhurst had towards a victory in doubles play, but ended up falling to Jesse Burrell and Ramona Czakon (8-5).
The Lakers will be back in action on April 9 as they travel to Niagara University and take on the Purple Eagles.
