MILLERSVILLE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team won, 20-12, at Millersville Saturday afternoon. Rebecca Himes scored four times as three other Lakers totaled three goals apiece in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win.
Mercyhurst took a 10-7 halftime lead, but the Marauders scored 52 seconds into the second half. The Lakers then scored straight goals to put the match out of reach.
Alisha Catalino finished a
Kayla Minner assist and then
Jessica Lincoln scored to make it 12-8.
Kelly Palmer and Himes each found the back of the net 47 seconds apart. Minner converted a free position try for a 15-8 advantage. Catalino capped the spurt with a goal at the 21:32 mark.
Ally Keirn opened the scoring in the first frame, putting the visitors up 1-0 with 21:38 remaining. Millersville quickly tied the contest, but Himes scored 41 seconds later to regain the lead. The hosts scored twice in under a minute to take a 3-2 lead midway through the half.
Palmer scored on a free position shot and then
Hannah Corton found Himes for another goal with 15:56 showing on the clock.
Anna LeGrett and
Regan Kaestner each converted free position shots to put Mercyhurst up 6-3. Keirn's second goal of the day stretched the lead before Lincoln and Catalino scored to make it 9-3 with under 10 minutes to go in the first.
Millersville scored the next three goals of the match to pull within three. Palmer stopped the run with a score at the 3:09 mark before Becky Donkin closed the first half with an unassisted goal to make it 10-7.
Himes had four goals, while Catalino, Palmer and Lincoln each scored three. Catalino dished out two assists. Keirn had two goals and two helpers.
Jenny Perkins made four saves to pick up the win, while
Rebecca Muscella had three saves in second half action. The Lakers outshot Millersville, 40-22, and converted 7-10 free position attempts.
Mercyhurst travels to Lake Erie College for a non-conference game on Tuesday, April 24. The match is set for a 6 p.m. start.
