Women's Lacrosse Gets First Win Behind Keirn's Career Day

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team won, 21-8, at Tiffin (Ohio) Saturday afternoon. Senior Ally Keirn scored a career-high seven goals in the non-conference victory.

The hosts went ahead 1-0 early in the first half before Hurst took control. Freshman Rebecca Himes set up Keirn's first goal with 20:36 left. Keirn scored 23 seconds later off a pass from Jessica Lincoln. Shortly after, Kayla Minner found Alisha Catalino for a 3-1 edge.

Alexis MacMillan got Tiffin within one score, but Keirn and Catalino regained the Lakers' advantage, as each set up a goal for the other. Meghan Hardy assisted on Keirn's fourth goal at the 14:13 mark to make it 6-2.

Alexandria Quast, the Dragons' leading scorer, got on the board before Mercyhurst put the match out of reach with an 8-0 run spanning into early in the second half. Himes and Catalino each scored twice in the spurt, while Keirn had a goal and two assists.

On the day, Keirn had seven goals on eight shots to go with three assists and four groundballs. Catalino totaled six goals and two helpers, while Himes had three goals. All three Laker goalies saw action, as Rebecca Muscella picked up the victory.

Keirn's seven goals topped her previous mark of six set against Slippery Rock on April 15, 2010.

Hurst (1-2) hosts Seton Hill in the 2012 home opener on Saturday, March 17. The contest is slated for a 12 p.m. start.
