LAKE WORTH, Fla. - The Mercyhurst baseball team suffered its worst loss of the season on Thursday evening, losing by a 7-0 final against Florida Memorial University. Mercyhurst, which had won four games in a row, dropped to 7-3 on the season.

Sophomore Nick Cianci made his first collegiate start and lasted just two innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits. He walked two and struck out one.

A bright spot for Mercyhurst was the work of the bullpen. Freshman Mike Wagner pitched five innings of relief and allowed just one unearned run on three hits. Freshman Kyle Hagerich pitched a perfect final inning, striking out two batters.

Florida Memorial scored four runs in the first inning and then added two more in the second off of Cianci.

Mercyhurst had the best opportunity to score in the top of the first inning, as the Lakers loaded the bases with one out. However, Ryan Siegel grounded into an inning-ending double play.

The Lakers had eight hits on the evening, getting three hits from senior Shane Latshaw.

Mercyhurst will return to action on Friday afternoon with a game against Felician College. Start time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
