ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's soccer team will travel to Charleston (W. Va.) for an NCAA Tournament match on Saturday, November 10. The contest is slated for a 7 p.m. start at Schoenbaum Stadium. It marks the Lakers' fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
Coach
Dale White's squad went 14-5-1 in the 2012 season, including wins in its last six outings. The Lakers are 14-2-1 since starting the season 0-3. They defeated crosstown rival Gannon, 4-2, on the final day of the regular season to claim the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) title.
The win gave Mercyhurst the right to host the conference tournament last weekend. It defeated Millersville, 3-2, in the semifinals as senior
Alex Manea recorded a hat trick, including the game-winning goal with 29 seconds to play in regulation. The Lakers followed that victory with a 1-0 win over Slippery Rock in the championship match.
Ryan Lund scored the winner in the 83rd minute. The result gave Mercyhurst its first-ever PSAC Tournament Championship.
Charleston sports a 13-1-4 overall mark. The Golden Eagles won the regular season and tournament titles in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC). It is the Eagles' fourth straight conference tournament championship and is the program's first NCAA appearance since 2010.
On October 7, the teams played at Charleston, with neither finding the back of the net. The 0-0 tie was the lone draw for the Lakers this season.
