CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Sophomore Sam Dorf scored in the 87th minute to beat the University of Charleston, 1-0 on Saturday evening. The Lakers move on to the third round of NCAA playoffs and improve to 15-5-1 in this post-season. Charleston, the WVIAC champions, ended its season with a record of 13-2-1.

The last time the Lakers made it into the third round of NCAA playoffs was back on December 6, 2002.

University of Charleston dominated the majority of the match.  The Golden Eagles outshot the Lakers seven to one in the first half, six to four in the second, and registered five corner kicks to two.

The shot that counted came at the 87:31 mark of the second half.  Senior Alex Manea split a Charleston defender's legs, sending the ball to meet the feet of Dorf.  Dorf was then one on one with the goaltender, and fed the ball into the middle, right corner of the net.

Dorf's game-winning goal was both his second goal of the season and second game-winner.

Senior Mikko Sarkkinen (2-0-0) started his second game, stopping four shots and recording his first shutout of the season.  Sean Teepen of Charleston made three saves and allowed the lone goal.

The Lakers will continue play in the NCAA playoffs.  The time and place of the next match are yet to be determined.
