Owen's Record Performance Leads Lakers to Win at Gannon Friday

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's water polo team won at Gannon, 14-11, Friday night. James Owen set a school record with 10 goals in the victory.

Owen scored four times in the first period, as the Lakers took a 5-4 lead after one. The Golden Knights answered with three goals in the second quarter, taking a 7-6 edge into the locker room.

Owen exploded again in the third frame, adding four more scores as Hurst (8-4, 7-0 CWPA) took control of the contest. A late Gannon rally fell short, creating the three-goal margin.

Raul Ariza, Danilo Svorcan, and Adam Borgman each scored a goal in support of Owen's monstrous effort. Matt Cote recorded eight saves in net. It was the second time Mercyhurst has beaten Gannon this season.

The Lakers play twice tomorrow, traveling to Penn State Behrend for a noon game and then hosting Salem International at 7 p.m.
