No. 17 Mercyhurst 4, East Stroudsburg 2

LANCASTER, Pa. – The 17th-ranked Mercyhurst College Lakers live to play another day after a 4-2 win over East Stroudsburg at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament.

Facing elimination, the Lakers (42-11) received a gutsy complete-game effort from starter Ben Rawding to move on in the double-elimination tournament. Mercyhurst will now play No. 10 Millersville on Monday at 1 p.m. The Lakers must defeat the top-seeded and host Marauders twice to advance to the College World Series.

The season series between the teams is knotted at one win each, with Millersville taking a 8-5 decision against the Lakers on Sunday to avenge Mercyhurst's 4-2 extra inning win over the Marauders in the PSAC tournament.

Meanwhile, East Stroudsburg (27-20) finishes its season.

The Lakers were held to just five hits on the night but received timely hitting, scoring a run each in the first and third innings before adding two in the sixth.

Jonathan Keppler scored the game's first run on an Ethan Santora sacrifice fly after collecting his 51st walk of the year, setting a new PSAC single-season record in that category. Keppler broke the mark set by Shippensburg's Herb Leslie in 1978.

Keppler then scored his second run of the day in the third when Zak Blair ripped a triple to the gap.

In the sixth, Shane Latshaw provided an RBI-single and Justin Urschel added an RBI-ground out for the Lakers' final score.

ESU nearly rallied but an effective Rawding was able to dial in and close the door on the Warriors. ESU put two on the board in the eighth and threatened to add a third but Shane Latshaw gunned down a runner trying to score from third on a flyout to end the inning with the score 4-2.

Rawding finished the game allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits while striking out five to move into 10th-place on the single-season chart for strikeouts.

Blair and Craig Denman each finished the game with two hits to lead the Lakers.

Notes:
Jonathan Keppler set the PSAC single-season record for walks. He now owns 52 this year.

Zak Blair and Kevin McCall are chasing the Mercyhurst record for hits in a season. Blair is one away from tying the mark of 76 set by Jamie Walczak in 2009 while McCall owns 74 hits on the year.

With his two runs scored, Keppler now moves into 10th-place on the single-season list at Mercyhurst for runs scored.

Shane Latshaw recorded his 20th double of the year, adding to his program-best mark for doubles in a season.

Ben Rawding moves into a tie for ninth-place on the single-season charts for victories (7).
