Lakers Take 8th-Straight With 6-0 Win Over Wheeling Jesuit

Mercyhurst 6, Wheeling Jesuit 0

ERIE, Pa. -- No. 27-ranked Mercyhurst College ran its winning-streak to eight games with a 6-0 whitewashing against Wheeling Jesuit on Friday afternoon.

Brad Duffy improved to 3-1 on the year for the Lakers after going seven innings and allowing four hits while striking out eight batters.  Joe Cochran delivered two effective innings of relief, giving up just one hit.

Mercyhurst kept with its recent theme of scoring early and often as the Lakers struck for three runs in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth.

The scoring started in the second when Ethan Santora opened with a single to left, then came around to score on a wild pitch.  Following the wild pitch, Jonathan Keppler ripped a two-out single that plated Shaw Latshaw and Anthony Tomasone.  Latshaw singled to left field to reach base and Tomasone drew a walk.

In the third, Kevin McCall doubled to left to start the inning, then came around to score on Craig Denman's sacrifice fly.  Shane Latshaw then followed with a double to plate Bill Gerstenslager and Ethan Santora.  Gerstenslager walked after McCall, and Santora reached on an error by the second baseman.

In the fouth, McCall doubled home Keppler.

The Lakers moved to 29-9 overall while the Cardinals fell to 11-18.  The two teams will meet again tomorrow (April 23) for a doubleheader beginning at 1p.m.
