ERIE, Pa. – Mercyhurst pounded out 27 hits while limiting Lock Haven to 13 as the Laker posted a sweep of the host Bald Eagles, taking game one by a 10-2 count before edging LHU 4-3 in the nightcap.
Mercyhurst moves to 24-9 overall, 9-6 in the PSAC West and retains its second-place position in the division. Meanwhile, Lock Haven drops to 16-15 overall, 6-8 in the PSAC West.
In the opener, seven Lakers contributed a multiple-hit effort.
Justin Urschel paced the Lakers with a 2-for-4 effort, including a team-best three RBI and a run scored.
Kevin McCall and
Adam Brentlinger each added a 2-for-4 performance with two RBI and a run scored.
Mercyhurst jumped out to a 7-0 lead after scoring a run in the second and then adding six in the third. Lock Haven added a run in the fourth and sixth inning while Mercyhurst pushed a run across in the sixth and two in the seventh to round out the scoring.
On the mound,
Eric Aschley provided another masterful complete-game effort, giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits while striking out three.
In game two, the Lakers scored a run in the second through fifth innings while holding the Bald Eagles to three runs in the bottom of the fifth frame for the game's final score.
Southpaw
Ben Rawding also went the distance for Mercyhurst, allowing three earned runs on eight hits while striking out five.
The Lakers return to action tomorrow, Saturday, April 16 when they host the Bald Eagles in a doubleheader to finish the four-game series.
