ERIE, Pa. -- The No. 30-ranked Mercyhurst College baseball team split its home opening double-header against the Golden Knights of Gannon, winning the first game in walk-off fashion 3-2 before dropping the second game 6-2.

The Lakers pounded out 13 hits against Gannon's Don Marchione, including the game-winning single by freshman Anthony Tomasone in the bottom of the twelfth which scored two runs. Zak Blair, Bill Gerstenslager and Shane Latshaw led the offensive attack each recording mutli-hit performances combing for eight of the Lakers' 13 hits.

In the bottom of the twelfth with two outs, Craig Denman singled down the third base line followed with a double by Latshaw. With runners on second and third, Tomasone blasted a walk-off line drive in the right center gap scoring both runners on base.

Matthew Jimenez recorded the win in the first game, throwing two-thirds of an inning and striking out one batter. Ben Rawding started game one, going seven innings and giving up just three hits and one earned run. Other Laker hurlers joining the effort include Samuel O'Neill and Brad Duffy. O'Neill threw four innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five.

The Golden Knights opened the second game, scoring two runs in the first inning thanks to a groundout by Michael Tomko and a Mercyhurst wild pitch. The Lakers answered back, scoring one run of their own. Blair got hit by a pitch and Ethan Santora doubled down the left field line, before Gerstenslager drove in Blair on a fielder's choice.

Santora, Blair, Denman and Gerstenslager combine for the only four hits that Mercyhurst posted in the second game. Eric Aschley suffered his first loss of the season, throwing six innings giving up five hits and six runs (four earned). Junior Jeremy Cressley finished the game, throwing one inning and giving up one hit.

The Lakers move to 15-5 on the season, 2-2 in PSAC West play. Mercyhurst continues conference play this weekend, March 25 and 26, as they play back-to-back double-headers against the Golden Eagles of Clarion.
