BECKLEY, W. Va. -- The Mercyhurst College baseball team swept host Salem International on Saturday night at Linda K. Epling Stadium. The No. 28 Lakers won the first contest by a 15-3 count before taking a 13-2 decision in the nightcap.
Mercyhurst moves to 13-3 on the year while Salem International falls to 0-11.
In the opener, Mercyhurst exploded for eight runs in the second followed by a run in the fifth and two each in the sixth and seventh innings.
Mercyhurst was led by
Bill Gerstenslager's three-run homer, pacing six different Lakers with extra base hits.
Jonathan Keppler collected the most hits on the day from his leadoff spot, going 4-for-5 with two doubles while scoring three runs and driving in three.
Zak Blair also had a shared team-high three RBI in a 3-for-5 effort.
Nick Gillung remained perfect on the mound at 4-0 for the Lakers in a controlled appearance that featured five different hurlers. Also seeing action was

Joe Cochran.
In the second game, Keppler and Blair continued their extra-streaks as Keppler went 2-for-5 with a triple and a pair of runs scored and driven in while Blair notched two triples in a perfect 3-for-3 efforts with two runs scored and an RBI.
Shane Latshaw led the Lakers with four hits in five trips to the plate, including a team-best three RBI and two runs scored.
The Lakers pitching staff again used controlled outings as five other pitchers spent time on the mound.
Zach Leitten earned the win after starting and going two innings while
Ben Rawding,
Tyler Bowditch,
Brad Duffy and
Samuel O'Neill each contributing.
