PRINCETON, N.J.- The Mercyhurst men's water polo team lost, 13-8, to George Washington in the fifth-place game at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Championships Sunday. The loss gave Hurst a sixth-place finish and ends the Lakers' season at 15-10 overall.
GW led 4-2 after the first quarter before Mercyhurst responded with a stellar second period to tie the match at 5 through two. George Washington regained control in the second half, however, outscoring the Lakers 8-3 to pick up the victory.
Danilo Svorcan scored three goals and
James Owen added two scores.
Alex Strong had two assists and
Brett Luehmann contributed a goal and an assist in the loss.
Hurst lost to Bucknell Friday to open action at Southerns. It answered with wins over Penn State Behrend and Notre Dame College Saturday.

Curtis Robinette's team ends 2011 with a 15-10 record and the CWPA Division II Eastern championship.
