PRINCETON, N.J.- The Mercyhurst men's water polo team won two games Saturday, including a sudden death victory over Notre Dame College. The Lakers defeated Penn State Behrend, 15-0, and then took a 12-11 overtime decision from the Falcons at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Championships at Princeton University.

Hurst played another tight match with Notre Dame Saturday, having already beaten the Falcons 13-12 at the CWPA Division II Eastern Championship two weekends ago. NDC led 5-2 after one quarter and 7-4 at the half. The Lakers slowly came back, getting within a goal late in the fourth period. Danilo Svorcan tied the contest at 10 with one second remaining in regulation. 

The teams went to overtime from there, with Notre Dame getting on the board first, scoring with six seconds to play in the first extra period. Hurst answered in the second overtime, as James Owen tied the match with 1:27 left. Luis Solis had the assist.
 
The contest went to sudden death. Alex Strong quickly ended matters, scoring on the first possession of the third extra frame. Owen scored five goals in the game, while Svorcan had a hat trick and two assists. He also collected seven drawn ejections. Brett Luehmann added three goals and two helpers, while Matt Cote made 13 saves and two steals in net.

The victory advanced Mercyhurst to the fifth-place game at Southerns. It will play George Washington tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. for fifth.

Hurst also defeated Behrend Saturday, shutting out the Lions. Coach Curtis Robinette's squad jumped out to a 6-0 lead through one and an 11-0 advantage at halftime. Tye Schreiber led with three scores. Luehmann and Justin Deis each scored twice and Gui Alves added two assists in the win.
