Mercyhurst Heads to Princeton for Southerns This Weekend

BRIDGEPORT, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's water polo team will be the sixth seed at the 2011 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Championship November 4-6. The 11-team tournament will be hosted by Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey.

The top four teams from the event will advance to the CWPA Eastern Championship in Cambridge, Mass., November 18-20.

Princeton is the top seed, with Navy, Bucknell and George Washington earning spots 2-4. In Bracket C, Hurst is the sixth seed, pairing with third-seeded Bucknell and 10-seed Penn State Behrend. The Lakers face Bucknell at 9:30 p.m. Friday, November 4.

On Saturday, Mercyhurst takes on Behrend at 2:50 p.m. Depending on results of the first two contests, the Lakers will play from there. Coach Curtis Robinette's squad is hoping to get into the first or third-place game on Sunday, meaning a bid to Easterns in two weeks.

The Lakers are 13-8 overall and 10-0 in their division. They also won the CWPA Division II Eastern title two weeks ago, defeating Notre Dame College, 13-12, in the finals. Hurst has beaten Behrend twice this season. Last year, Mercyhurst lost to Bucknell at Southerns and finished fifth at the event.
