#12 Lakers Upset by Warriors, 3-1

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Nick Fischer of East Stroudsburg University netted two second half goals while adding an assist to help the Warriors upset No.12 Mercyhurst College.  Freshman Patrick Gehring tallied the Lakers lone goal in the 3-1 loss.

After the loss the Lakers move to 8-3-0 overall this season and drop to 2-2-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.  The win moves the Warriors to 3-6-1 overall while improving to 2-3-1 in the PSAC.

The first half saw just one shot on goal, sophomore Matthew Campana put his lone shot of the game on goal but Sean Murphy made the save for the Warriors. 

The Lakers outshot the Warriors 8-4 and also held a 3-1 corner kick advantage at the conclusion of the first half.
Eight minutes into the second half Fischer opened the flood gates netting the game's first goal.  Just under seven minutes later Fischer fed the ball to Nemanja Nikolik who finished putting the Warriors on top 2-0. 

Mercyhurst bounced back at the 67:33 mark when senior Arash Fahandezh helped Patrick Gehring net his second goal of the season.  The goal brought the Lakers within one and looking for the equalizer.

East Stroudsburg responded just 12 minutes later when Nikolik took a pass from Fischer giving the Warriors back the two-goal lead. 

The Lakers made a late push after the Warriors tally, in the remaining minutes the Lakers took six shots four of which were on target.  Senior Billy Colton and junior Austin Solomon both drilled a shot off the crossbar. 

The loss marks the Lakers second consecutive loss, the last time Mercyhurst dropped two consecutive was on Oct.23 and Oct.27 losing to Millersville University and Slippery Rock respectively.

The Lakers return to action Saturday, Oct.8 as they host Bloomsburg University.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
