Lakers Head to Salem for Eastern Championships Saturday

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's water polo team travels to Salem, West Virginia, for the Division II Eastern Championships October 22. The Lakers are the top seed in the one-day, four-team tournament.
 
Hurst enters the weekend with an 11-7 record, including a 10-0 mark in the Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Division, West Region. It will face the host, Salem International, at 11 a.m. Notre Dame College and Gannon will meet in the other first round contest. The losers of the first two games will play for third place at 3:30 p.m. The championship match is scheduled for 5 p.m.
 
Coach Curtis Robinette's squad is a combined 6-0 against the other three schools at the event.
 
James Owen leads the team with 42 goals, while Brett Luehmann has scored 40 of his own. Luehmann also has a team-high 20 assists in 2011.
 
On October 23, Mercyhurst takes on Johns Hopkins. The game is slated for a 10:30 a.m. start at Penn State Behrend.
