Mercyhurst Drops Tight Game at Harvard Sunday

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Mercyhurst men's water polo team lost Sunday, falling to Harvard at Blodgett Pool. Hurst also dropped a 13-5 decision to MIT.
 
Against the hosts, the Lakers lost a tough 10-9 contest. Hurst led 1-0 after one quarter and 4-2 at halftime. The Crimson came out with a strong effort in the second half, scoring five third-quarter goals to go ahead 6-5.
 
Harvard scored the first goal of the fourth frame, but Mercyhurst responded with two goals to tie it. The Crimsons quickly regained an 8-7 edge before the Lakers scored twice in the final minutes to take a 9-8 advantage. Harvard scored in the final minute to tie the match and then Max Eliot recorded the game-winner with under 30 seconds to play.

James Owen scored three goals, while Brett Luehmann added two scores and two assists. Danilo Svorcan posted two scores, including the go-ahead goal in the final minutes. Kyle Scarry compiled three assists and a goal.

In the second contest, MIT led 2-0 after one and 4-1 at the half. The Lakers rebounded to cut the deficit to 6-4 through three periods, but MIT came back with seven fourth-quarter scores to seal it.
 
Owen led with a hat trick and four steals. Scarry and Luehmann each had a goal of their own.

Hurst travels to Salem, West Virginia, for the Eastern Championships next weekend. It will be the top seed and play Salem International in the opening round on October 22.
