ERIE, Pa. – Senior
Arash Fahandezh's goal early in the second half lifted the No. 10 Mercyhurst College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over No. 24 East Stroudsburg Wednesday afternoon at Mercyhurst Soccer Field.
With the victory, the Lakers improve to 8-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Confernece action, while the Warriors fall to 7-2-0 on the season and 3-2-0 in conference play. More importantly, Mercyhurst now moves into a tie for third place in the conference standings.
Fahandezh gave the Lakers the game-clinching score and recorded his first collegiate goal when he knocked in a loose ball with a sliding kick in front of the cage at the 57:55 mark.
Sophomore
Diego Gustin, with exceptional defensive play in front of him, recorded the win with one save. Mercyhurst outshot East Stroudsburg 11-4 and held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks. Both teams combined for 21 fouls and five yellow cards.
Mercyhurst takes a break from PSAC play this weekend with a non-conference contest at Urbana. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
