ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst College women's water polo team went 3-0 during the first day of competition at the 2010 Penn State Behrend Invitational on Saturday at the Junker Center in Erie, Pa. The Lakers defeated Villanova, 14-7, Chatham, 10-5, and Utica, 11-1, to extend their win streak to four games and move to 4-9 on the season.
Against Villanova, Mercyhurst saw four players score multiple goals, including junior
Rachel Griepsma, who netted a game-high five scores. Sophomore
Laura Perez and freshman
Lisett Calderon each added two goals and two assists apiece, and senior
Jenna Jefferds reeled off two goals and dished out an assist.

Alyssa Katerberg, sophomore
Tara Bouma and junior
Nicole Nelson each added single tallies.
Sophomore
Hope Rozelle kept the Wildcats at bay with eight saves.
Shortly after their meeting with Villanova, the Lakers doubled up Chatham, 10-5, behind a balanced attack that saw 10 different players score. With the exception of Nelson, who helped out on two goals for two points, everyone from the first game scored along with juniors
Chrissy Becks and
Molly Keleshian, sophomores
Laura Hennessey and
Jessica Clemente, and freshman
Kylie McCormick.
Senior
Cathi Korenich turned aside 14 shots to record the victory in goal.
Korenich would return to the cage for the final game against Utica, sealing the victory with 16 saves and allowing one goal.
McCormick and Bouma led the offense with two goals, while Becks added a goal and two assists and Hennessey tacked on two helpers.
Katerberg, Nelson, Clemente, Keleshian, Griepsma and freshman
Trish Armstrong rounded out the offense with a goal apiece.
Mercyhurst closes out the Penn State Behrend Invitational on Sunday with a game against host-institution Penn State Behrend. Game time is set for 2:15 p.m.
