Lakers Down Dragons, 19-5

TIFFIN, Ohio – The No. 5 Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team cruised to a 19-5 victory at Tiffin Friday, March 12, taking an 11-2 halftime lead and staging three lengthy scoring runs. Sophomore Ally Keirn paced Mercyhurst with a seven-point outing, as three Lakers posted four-goal games.

The Lakers maintain their unbeaten record at 4-0, while Tiffin is now 0-1 on the season.

Keirn tallied four goals for the second game in a row and added three assists, while seniors Kristie Jennings and Celeste Shefferly added five points apiece, each contributiing a season-high four goals and an assist. Sophomores Kelly Palmer and Jessica Lincoln tallied two goals apiece, with Palmer drawing two assists.

Junior Kimberly Masterton, sophomore Laura Trenti, and freshman Melissa Leonhard rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.

The Lakers outshot Tiffin by nearly a 3-to-1 margin, 47-16, and picked up 38 groundballs to the Dragons' 13.

Senior Maeve McGoff earned her fourth win in as many starts, making three saves and allowing two goals in the first half. Sophomore Jenny Perkins guarded the Laker net during the second half, stopping two shots. 

The Lakers scored the first three goals of the game, but led by just two at 4-2 with 18 minutes left in the first half. Mercyhurst then deposited seven unanswered goals to close the half with an 11-3 lead. Mercyhurst's 11-goal first half served as the fourth time the team has scored 10 or more goals in the first stanza in a game this season. The Lakers staged a seven-goal rally during the second half, pulling away for a 19-5 victory.

Mercyhurst will next play host to Edinboro Wednesday, March 17 at 4 p.m. in a PSAC West matchup.
