ERIE, Pa. -- Behind the solid play of freshmen
Eric Drusko and
Spencer Kilpatrick, the Mercyhurst College men's tennis team nipped local rival Penn State Behrend, 5-4, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lakers (1-6) record their first win of the 2010-11 campaign while the Lions remain winless at 0-6.
Drusko was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 6 singles while Kilpatrick earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles. The two partnered at No. 3 doubles where they hung on for a tough 9-8 (5) victory.
Also earning a win at doubles was the No. 2 pair of
Omar Ammouni and
Adam Marnik by an 8-4 count. Marnik also posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles to close out the Laker winners.
The match concludes Mercyhurst's fall schedule as the Lakers won't return to action until Feb. 6 when they travel to Carnegie Mellon.
