Men's Tennis Falls to Binghamton at Westwood

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's tennis team hosted the Binghamton Bearcats on Thursday at Westwood Racquet Club. Entering the day, the Lakers were looking for their fifth consecutive win and third straight conference win of the season.
 
In singles competition, Danylo Rekun came away with an early 6-3 win during his first set on the first court before falling 7-5 and 6-3. Lukas Cabue Valverde fell in both of his sets by scores of 6-3 and 6-0. Petar Belosevic put in a strong performance on the third court, earning the first Laker singles victory by scores of 6-2 and 6-4. Colm Schultz fell in his opening set 6-2 and was unable to mount a comeback, falling 6-2 in the final set of his match. Mykhailo Polishchuck fell in his first set 6-2, but managed to battle back and win 7-5 to tie the sides. In his final set, Polishchuck fought hard, but fell 6-2. Nikola Radisic continued his string of singles victories and came away with his win by scores of 7-5 and a dominating 6-1 on the sixth court.
 
In doubles competition, Schultz and Belosevic kept their match tight before falling 7-6 after a 7-5 tiebreaker with the Bearcats. Rekun and Cabue competed over on the second court and managed to secure a win for the Lakers by a score of 6-4. The final Laker duo of David Mengher and Raul Davalos fell on the third court 6-1.
 
The Bearcats ultimately took the road win at Westwood by a score of 5-2.
 
The Lakers will next travel to Youngstown, Ohio to take on the Chicago State Cougars tomorrow, Friday, April 3 for their final NEC matchup of the season before the league tournament later this month.
