EASTLAKE, Ohio -- The Mercyhurst College baseball team swept a doubleheader from Lake Erie College for the second consectutive day, winning the first half of the twinbill by an 18-0 margin before taking Game 2 by a 10-5 count.
Mercyhurst improves to 21-12 overall, 8-4 in the PSAC West, while Lake Erie drops to 5-21 on the season.
In Game 1, the Lakers offense exploded for 19 hits while four pitchers combined to hold Lake Erie to one hit.
Jeff Stoll paced the Lakers from the plate, hammering two three-run homers in consecutive innings to finish the game a perfect 2-for-2 with 6 RBI and three runs scored.
Craig Denman contributed four RBI after smashing a grand slam in the bottom of the third as part of a seven-run inning for the Lakers. Denman finished 1-for-2 at the plate with four RBI and two runs scored. Also adding a round-tripper was
Jonathan Dziomba, who finished perfect at the plate as well with a 3-for-3 effort, driving in a pair of runs while scoring three.
Starter
John Mang earned the victory with four hitless innings of work, walking one and striking out five.
Nick Scheetz allowed a hit in the fifth inning while Samuel O'Neill and
Thurman Schaetzle came on to close out the game and preserve the shutout.
In the nightcap, the Lakers used an eight-run second inning to break open a 2-1 contest and take a commanding 10-1 lead before allowing four runs in the sixth for the final score.
Ryan Schreiber picked up the win for the Lakers after four innings of work and allowed just one earned run on four hits while striking out four.

Matthew Jimenez and
Jamie Walczak all saw action on the hill in the win.
At the plate, Stoll continued his hot streak as he went 2-for-3 with one run scored and two RBI. Walczak also added a multiple RBI game, along with Denman.
The Lakers, who are in third place in the PSAC Western Division, return to action on Friday, April 10 to take on second-place Slippery Rock. The first-pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
