Millersville, Pa. – The fourth-ranked Mercyhurst College women's lacrosse team defeated Millersville by a score of 20-10 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference cross-over match-up Saturday afternoon in Millersville, Pa. With the victory, the Lakers improve to 11-1 on the season while Millersville falls to 4-7 overall.
Sophomore
Kimberly Masterton and senior
Breanna Haggerty combined for 15 of the Lakers' 34 points. Masterton scored three goals and added five assists while Haggerty contributed four scores and three helpers. Junior
Kristie Jennings also tallied four goals to go along with two assists for six points. Sophomore
Elizabeth Tice tacked in three scores and an assist and senior
Jessie Horeth netted a goal and contributed two assists. Freshman
Ally Keirn finished with a pair of goals.
Mercyhurst took care of business in the first half, jumping out to a 5-0 lead before ending the frame with a 13-4 advantage. The Lakers outshot the Marauders 20-10 and took advantage of 10 turnovers. The second half saw Millersville gain some momentum with six goals, but seven more from the Lakers sealed the game. The Lakers finished the game with a 34-27 edge in shots and an 18-14 advantage in draw controls.
Junior
Jessica Raniero picked up her second win of the season with five saves through the first half of play. Freshman
Jenny Perkins played the second half with eight saves.
Mercyhurst returns to action this week with a PSAC West contest against IUP on Tuesday, April 14, at 4 p.m.
