Lakers Sweep Pair of CWPA Foes

Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst College women's water polo team extended its winning streak to three games with a pair of victories over CWPA foes Saturday. The Lakers defeated Grove City by a score of 11-1 in the morning game before posting a shutout over Chatham, 10-0, in the afternoon contest. With the victories, Mercyhurst improves its record to 4-13 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Six different Lakers found the back of the net in the game against Grove City. Sophomore Alyssa Katerberg led the offense with three scores. Freshmen Kimberly Goodhart and Laura Perez and sophomore Rachel Griepsma tallied two apiece while sophomores Chrissy Becks and Molly Keleshian added single scores. Freshman Hope Rozelle stopped 12 of 13 shots and held the Wolverines scoreless through 56:30.

Mercyhurst saw more of the team get involved in the game against Chatham. Keleshian handled most of the scoring duties, netting three goals for her first collegiate hat-trick. Beck, Katerberg, Clemente, Griepsma, Goodhart, junior Jenna Jefferds and freshman Jessica Clemente rounded out the offense with a goal each. Junior Cathi Korenich recorded the shutout with 15 saves.

The Lakers return to action on Sunday, March 29, when cross-town rival Penn State Behrend visits the Mercyhurst Aquatic Center for a 9 a.m. contest.
