Washington, Pa. – The Mercyhurst College women's water polo team earned its second win of the season this past weekend, defeating Washington and Jefferson by a score of 18-8 in a CWPA showdown in Washington, Pa.
The Lakers, who improve to 2-13 overall and 1-1 in conference action, controlled the game from start. After opening the first quarter on a 3-0 run, Mercyhurst separated itself from the Presidents with six scores in the second en route to a 9-3 halftime lead. Three more goals followed in the third before the Lakers added another six-pack in the finale to cap the game at 18-8.
Sophomore
Nicole Nelson led the attack with four goals and four assists for eight points. Sophomore
Rachel Griepsma added five goals and three steals, while classmate
Alyssa Katerberg tallied three markers and boasted a takeaway. Senior
Chrissy Genian scored two goals and two assists.
Freshman
Hope Rozelle earned the win with six saves through three quarters. Junior
Cathi Korenich played the fourth quarter and tallied an assist.
The Lakers return to action with a contest at Grove City on Saturday, March 28 at 10 a.m.
