Lakers Dispose Of West Chester, Cheyney

Slippery Rock, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's tennis team improved to 3-0 on the season by defeating West Chester and Cheyney Saturday in neutral site matches at Slippery Rock. The Lakers beat West Chester 7-2 and dropped just one game in a 9-0 win over Cheyney.

Mercyhurst won two of three doubles matches against West Chester as Kim Ezzo and Courtney Conway rolled to an 8-3 victory at No. 2 and Natalie Iovino and Kelton Macke lost only one game in an 8-1 win at No. 3.
 
In singles play, Mercyhurst picked up five straight set victories led by Meghan Raynor's 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3. Ezzo won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 and Jaclyn McLean won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2. Conway won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 4 and Macke rolled 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6.
 
Cheyney had just five players and forfeited both No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles, giving the Lakers a quick 2-0 lead. Mercyhurst never looked back, sweeping all five singles matches 6-0, 6-0 and losing just one game in doubles play.
 
Mercyhurst's next competition will take place in the ITA Regionals Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 27-28 at Bloomsburg, Pa.
