Lakers Edged by Bobcats, 1-0

Goalkeeper Rebecca Heintzman allowed only one goal Saturday.
Buckhannon, W. Va. – The Mercyhurst College women's soccer team allowed a late goal to West Virginia Wesleyan, suffering a 1-0 non-conference loss Saturday night.
 
West Virginia Wesleyan is now 6-0, while Mercyhurst's record is 5-2-1.
 
Jill Morrison scored the game's only goal, taking a pass from Bobcat teammate Hannah Macormic in front of the net and striking a shot past Mercyhurst goalkeeper Rebecca Heintzman at 71:18. Her goal, scored from 15 yards out, was Morrison's first of the season.
 
Mercyhurst's last shot came in the final minute of regulation, as Jamie Schroter's attempt was denied by Bobcat keeper Caroline Lalley.
 
The Lakers and Bobcats fought through a scoreless first half, with each side attempting five shots.
 
Lalley made eight saves for the Bobcats to earn the shutout.
 
The Mercyhurst defense allowed only two shots on goal for the match. The Lakers outshot the Bobcats 12-10 overall, including 8-2 in shots on goal. WVW attempted four corner kicks, while Mercyhurst was not awarded a corner kick.
 
On Wednesday, Mercyhurst head coach Keith Cammidge posted his 100th career victory as a collegiate women's soccer head coach in the Lakers' 2-1 upset win over Slippery Rock.
 
The Lakers return to PSAC West play Tuesday, hosting cross town rival Gannon at 4:00 p.m.
