BUFFALO, N.Y. — A second half goal was not enough for Mercyhurst women's soccer as they fell 4-1 to Buffalo on the road.
The first half began with a strong defensive performance from
Rylee Kumer, who recorded multiple saves. Buffalo broke the deadlock in the 25th minute as a long ball deflected off a Laker defender and into the net. The Bulls added another goal in the 34th minute. The half ended with the Bulls leading 2-0. Kumer made five saves in the half.
The Lakers made a strong start to the second half, with
Fiona Fraser scoring her second career goal.
Caterina Cappiello notched the assist, narrowing the deficit to 2-1. The Lakers continued to find themselves in the Bulls' defensive third, but were not able to capitalize. Buffalo responded with a goal in the 60th minute to extend their lead 3-1. A cross in the 86th minute deflected off a Laker defender, bringing the score sheet to 4-1. Kumer made three saves in the half.
Kumer recorded eight saves for the Lakers. The Lakers' defense faced 32 shots, six of them being blocked. Fraser found the back of the net, scoring on the only shot of the game to add to the team's effort.
Mercyhurst fell to 0-7-1 overall after the loss. Buffalo improved to 4-1-1 on the season.
The Lakers will open up conference play next week at LIU.
