No. 10 Lakers Blank Providence to Win Fourth Straight

Providence, R.I. - Junior Meghan Agosta scored twice and freshman goaltender Hillary Pattenden recorded her first collegiate shutout as No. 10 Mercyhurst won its fourth straight game, all on the road, with a 3-0 decision at Providence. The Lakers improved to 7-4 overall while the Friars dropped to 6-6-1. Providence had been unbeaten (4-0-1) in its last five contests.

After a scoreless first period, Agosta marked her fifth goal of the season three minutes into the second period as she outmaneuvered Providence freshman netminder Genevieve Lacasse (5-4-0). Sophomore Vicki Bendus stretched the lead to 2-0 late in the period when she notched her second of the year on a power play.

Agosta closed the scoring seven minutes into the third with her second of the game and fifth in the last two contests.

Mercyhurst outshot Providence 54-23 in posting its first shutout of the season. The Lakers finished 1-of-5 with the man advantage while the Friars were blanked in eight tries. Mercyhurst has now killed 21 successive opponent power plays dating back to November 21st at Colgate.

Pattenden improved her record to 7-1-0 as the Lakers now lead the all-time series against the Friars 7-3.

Mercyhurst will conclude an eight-game road trip Saturday at Brown.
