Claremont, Calif. – The Mercyhurst College men's water polo team split its two games at the 2008 Claremont Convergence Tournament this past weekend in Claremont, Calif.
The Lakers defeated Claremont McKenna, 10-5, on Friday, while falling to Air Force by the same score on Saturday.
In the victory against Claremont, seniors
Jake Coin and
Jorge Montero led the Lakers' offense (8-4) with four points apiece. Coin netted two goals and two assists while Montero contributed three goals and a helper. Senior
Andrew Schonhoff netted three goals as well. Sophomore
Andy Sekulski recorded the win with 16 saves in net.
Against Air Force, Coin continued his offensive production with two more goals to give him a total of five for the tournament. Schonhoff also added two strikes while Montero rounded out the scoring with a goal. Sekulski made 15 saves as he suffered just his fourth loss of the season.
Mercyhurst returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 8 when the Lakers host cross-town rival Gannon. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
