Potsdam, N.Y. – Behind a four-goal rally in the third period, Clarkson was able to overcome a 2-1 deficit and defeat the No. 6 Mercyhurst College women's hockey team, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the Cheel Arena.
With the loss, the Lakers fall to 3-2 overall and 1-2 away from home. The Golden Knights, on the other hand, improve to 1-3-1 with their second straight victory over Mercyhurst dating back to last season.
Mercyhurst quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the first period when freshman

Despite the early score, the Clarkson defense would hold the Lakers in check until late in the second period. The Golden Knights tied the game at 1-1 less than seven minutes into the second thanks to a score by Marie-Jo Gaudet, but sophomore
Jesse Scanzano put the visitors back in front with 3:37 remaining. Sophomore
Cassea Schols was accredited with the helper.
However, Clarkson exploded in the third, scoring four unanswered goals over the span of 12:40. Danielle Bourdreau knotted the game at 2-2 with an extra-man marker at the 7:20 mark followed by the eventual game-winner from Juana Baribeau at 10:51. Gaudet added her second of the game at 18:22 while Melissa Waldie provided some insurance with an empty-netter 26 seconds later.
Freshman
Hillary Pattenden suffered her first loss of the season with 25 saves made in net.
The Lakers held the advantage in shots, 33-30, but allowed the Golden Knights to convert 2-of-9 chances on the power-play. Mercyhurst was 1-for-4 with the extra-man advantage.
Mercyhurst and Clarkson wrap up the two-game series on Saturday, Oct. 25 with a 2 p.m. face-off.
