Lewisburg, Pa. – The Mercyhurst College men's water polo team finished day one of the East / West Crossover with back-to-back to losses to CWPA rivals No. 12 Princeton and Bucknell at the Kinney Natatorium in Lewisburg, Pa.
Saturday's matches marked the first time since the 2007 Southern Division Championships that the Lakers had suffered back-to-back losses, a feat which was last accomplished by Johns Hopkins and then-No. 17 Bucknell.
Princeton defeated the Lakers, 10-5, in the opening game of the tournament. The Tigers jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first quarter before adding four in the second to take a 6-4 advantage heading into halftime. The Lakers suffered a shutout third quarter as the designated visitors posted three goals to balloon the lead to five. Both teams traded goals in the fourth.
Sophomore 
Alex Moggridge led the Lakers with three goals and two assists while senior 
Andrew Schonhoff tallied a goal and an assist. Sophomore 
Andy Sekulski registered 10 saves in net.
The Lakers followed the game with a tight contest against Bucknell, falling to the hosts, 9-8, on a late goal by the Bison's Alex Lampley. Both teams traded scores through entire game heading into the fourth quarter, where the lead would change hands three times in the final 10 minutes. However, the Bison made their last shot count, scoring with just 20 seconds remaining to take a 9-8 victory. 
Moggridge marked three goals in the contest to improve his day one total to six. Schonhoff followed him two scores and two steals, while Sekulski led the defense with 13 saves and two takeaways.
Mercyhurst returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 19 when the Lakers take on Johns Hopkins in the final day of the East / West Crossover.
