Lakers Split Doubleheader At Day Two of Curtis Robinette Memorial Invitational

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's water polo team wrapped up hosting the Curtis Robinette Memorial Invitational with games against Washington & Jefferson and La Salle. They beat the Presidents 12-8, but lost to the Explorers 14-5.
 
Game One
The Lakers opened up the first quarter with back-to-back goals coming from seniors Krista Domaracki and Molly Langridge. The Presidents responded with a goal of their own to make the game 2-1. Mercyhurst continued to show offense, getting goals from sophomore Victoria Mastrangelo and senior Freya Green. Washington & Jefferson responded with a goal, but 14 seconds later, senior Eva Henneman scored a goal, taking a 5-2 lead into the second quarter.
 
The Presidents opened up the quarter scoring back-to-back goals, narrowing Mercyhurst's lead to one. Mastrangelo scored her second goal of the game to push the lead back to two, giving the Lakers a 6-4 lead going into the half.
 
In the third quarter, Henneman scored her second goal of the game, to extend the lead to three. Washington & Jefferson continued to fight back, scoring two more goals to make their deficit go back to one. Mastrangelo scored back-to-back goals, tallying four on the day, giving Mercyhurst a 9-6 lead going into the fourth.
 
Green opened up the quarter for the Lakers with her second goal of the game. Fifth year Alexa Corrao scored her first of the goal to extend the lead by four. Washington & Jefferson kept the game with a goal scored with just under four minutes left to play. Freshman Bailey Dunn scored a goal to extend the lead for the Lakers. The Presidents scored with under two minutes left, but it was not enough as Mercyhurst held onto a 12-8 lead.
 
Game Two
In the first quarter, La Salle quickly got on the board. Sophomore Victoria Mastrangelo continued to be an offensive threat, with a to tie the game at one. The Explorers scored three straight goals, taking a 4-1 lead into the half.
 
Within the first 20 seconds of the second quarter, Mastrangelo scored yet another goal for the Lakers, her second on the day.  La Salle responded with two goals of their own, extending the lead by four. Freshman Bailey Dunn quickly responded with a goal of her own. Senior Freya Green continued to be an offensive threat as well, scoring another goal on the day for Mercyhurst. The Explorers scored two more goals, taking an 8-3 lead into the half.
 
There was a lot of defense in the third quarter, but ultimately, La Salle scored the first goal of the game. Freshman Bailey Dunn quickly responded with a goal of her own, trailing by five to enter the fourth.
 
Mastrangelo opened up the quarter with her third goal of the game, giving her yet another hat-trick. La Salle proceeded to score five more goals, winning the game 14-5.
 
The Lakers return to the pool when they play at the Gannon Invitational March 14 to face Gannon at 10:45 a.m. and Penn State Behrend at 4:45 p.m.
