ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's water polo team opened up the Curtis Robinette Memorial Tournament today, hosting Wheaton, La Salle, Washington and Jefferson, Gannon, Penn State Behrend, Grove City and Saint Francis. They beat Wheaton in their first game with a score of 17-5, and hosted senior night with a 17-6 victory against Grove City.
Game One
The Lakers opened up the game with a goal coming from senior
Krista Domaracki. Mercyhurst continued to display their offense with a goal coming freshman
Bailey Dunn. Freshman
Mercedes Feliciano Fernandez delivered with a goal of her own, to add to the Laker lead. Dunn extended the lead for Mercyhurst, scoring her second goal of the game. Senior
Eva Henneman got on the board with a goal, to extend the lead 5-0 going into the second quarter.
In the second quarter the Lakers pushed their lead even further with yet another goal coming from Dunn, giving her a hat trick on the day. Domaracki scored her second goal of the game, extending the lead to 7-0. Feliciano Fernandez scored her second goal of the game, extending the distance between the Lakers and the Lyons. Sophomore
Gianna Boscacci was flawless, allowing zero goals and helping the Lakers maintain an 8-0 lead going into the half.
Going into the third quarter, the Lakers opened up with back-to-back goals. The first goal came from sophomore Victoria Manstrangelo, and the second came from Henneman, scoring her second of the game. Wheaton got on the board and scored back-to-back goals of their own. The Lakers responded with three consecutive goals. Junior
Marley Hanlon got on the board with her first of the game. Sophomore
Joey Roedl scored her first of the game as well. Senior
Molly Langridge also scored her first, taking a 13-2 lead into the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, Mercyhurst continued to show dominance with senior
Freya Green scoring a goal 12 seconds into the fourth quarter. Allstun continued the domination for the Lakers, scoring her second goal of the game. Freshman
Adriana Boltes Moragues scored her first goal to help the Lakers extend the lead 16-2. The Lyons scored two goals of their own narrow the Lakers' lead to 12. Freshman
Kate Martin got on the board for Mercyhurst. Wheaton scored a goal within the last two minutes of the game, but Mercyhurst retained a 17-5 victory.
Game Two
Mercyhurst opened up the game with a goal sophomore
Joey Roedl, but Grove City quickly responded to tie the game at one. About two minutes later, senior
Molly Langridge scored a goal to break the tie for the Lakers. Mercyhurst continued to display offense with yet another goal, this time coming from senior
Freya Green. Freshman
Bailey Dunn also scored, extending the Lakers' lead 4-1. Grove City scored with one minute remaining, taking a 4-2 deficit to enter the second.
The Lakers were a force to be wrecked with, with yet another goal coming from Langridge. Senior
Krista Domaracki scored a goal to extend the lead to four. Grove City responded with a goal, but Mercyhurst immediately retaliated and scored five consecutive goals. The first goal came from freshman
Mercedes Feliciano Fernandez. The second one came from freshman
Bailey Dunn. The next three came from senior
Eva Henneman, giving her a hat trick in just the second quarter, taking an 11-3 lead into the half.
In the third quarter, Feliciano Fernandez continued the scoring for the Lakers, with her second goal of the game. Grove City quickly responded with a goal, but Mercyhurst did not let go so freely, scoring back-to-back goals. Henneman scored her fourth goal of the game extending the lead to nine, while Dunn scored her third goal, making her the second Laker in the game with a hat trick. Grove City responded with a goal, taking a 14-5 deficit into the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, Feliciano Fernandez scored her third goal, making her the third Laker to get a hat trick. Grove City responded about a minute later. Mercyhurst scored the final two goals of the game, thanks to Domaracki and another goal from Henneman, taking a 17-6 victory on senior night.
The Lakers continue to host the Chris Robinette Memorial Invitational tomorrow when they play Washington and Jefferson at 9:30 a.m. and La Salle at 12:30 p.m.
