LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's water polo team continued their season at day two of the Bucknell Invitational. The Lakers faced off against Harvard, but fell short with a final score of 16-6.
In the first quarter, the Crimson the took a 9-0 lead going into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, Harvard continue displaying their offense with two more goals, extending their lead. Freshman
Mercedes Feliciano-Fernandez got on the board with a goal for the Lakers. Harvard proceeded to score two more goals, taking a 13-1 lead into the half.
Harvard continued the scoring with two goals opening up the third quarter. The Lakers responded with two goals of their own within the last minute of the quarter. Senior
Eva Henneman scored the first, while freshman
Joey Roedl scored the second, trailing 15-3 to enter the forth.
In the fourth quarter, Mercyhurst got on the board first with a goal coming from junior
Freya Green. They continued to score, with the second goal of the period coming from Henneman, narrowing the deficit. The Crimson responded with a goal of their own, but Henneman scored with 14 seconds left, giving her a hat trick on the day. Despite the late rally, it wasn't enough for Mercyhurst, as Harvard secured a 16-6 victory.
The Lakers return to the pool February 28 when they host the Curtis Robinette Memorial Invitational. They will play Wheaton at 3 p.m. and Grove City at 7:30 p.m.
