Cooper River, New Jersey – The Mercyhurst Men's Heavyweight and Lightweight rowing teams competed at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championships on May 30th – 31st, highlighted by a historic finish for the Lightweight 4+ who brought home the program's first ever medal.
How It Happened:
The Heavyweight 4+ was the first boat to hit the water for the Lakers which consisted of (C) Seanna Zona, (4) Nathaniel Harris, (3) Matthew Wnek, (2) William Stover, and (1) Jovan Saric. The boat qualified for the F final after their time trial and semi-final. The boat finished in 2nd place in the F final right behind Georgetown and ahead of Marietta, Bates, Iona, and Catholic ranking them at 32nd in the nation.
The next boat to hit the water for the Lakers was the Lightweight 4+ which consisted of (C) Emily McCauley, (4) Marko Dojcinovic, (3) Ralph Kasow, (2) Ivan Katic, and (1) Bogdan Protic. The boat qualified for the A final after their time trial and semi-finals. The Lightweight 4+ came in 2nd place just 0.5 seconds behind Georgetown to secure their first ever medal in the Lightweight 4+ event in program history.
