Mercyhurst Completes Sweep of Le Moyne on Graduation Day

Erie, Pa.- Mercyhurst closed the home portion of their schedule with a 4-2 win over Le Moyne on graduation day. The Lakers completed their second sweep of the year on a special day that included senior day, graduation and Mother's day. They finished with a .500 record in conference play and finished with an 11-6 record at home this season.

How it Happened:
The script stayed the same as yesterday in the first inning for the Dolphins. Le Moyne has been able to get base runners, but they just haven't been able to bring them across home plate. They loaded up the bases and had just one out, but Daniel Thomas recorded back-to-back ground outs to escape the inning unscathed. On the other side, the Lakers were buzzing. It got even louder after Joey Trivisonno hit a two-run blast to give them an early lead. The Lakers looked as if they were going to go back-to-back, but Jack Cannon robbed an extra base hit from Eric Chorba. But Jayden Walker made up for it by hitting his 12th home run of the season. Mercyhurst tacked on their fourth run of the game on a wild pitch before Le Moyne finally got out of the inning. On top of all that, the Lakers nearly matched their hit total from Saturday's game in the first inning.

Bobby McBride rebounded in the second inning on the mound after he recorded three strikeouts in the inning. But Daniel Thomas copied that effort in the top of third to help Mercyhurst maintain their 4-0 lead through three. The Dolphins finally scored for the first time since the sixth inning on Friday in the fifth inning though. The tacked on two runs in an inning that just kept going. The Lakers tried to get those runs back, but left the bases loaded in the bottom of the frame.

From there, neither team crossed the plate again. The Lakers were able to complete the sweep with a 4-2 win in which all of their runs came in the first for second straight day.

Next Game:
The Lakers will hit the road for their final series of the season. They'll take on Akron in a three-game set. The first game will be played at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 15th.
