Lakers Close Season at CWPA Championships

4/27/2025 8:40:00 AM

Providence, RI.- Mercyhurst officially closed the 2025 campaign with a seventh place finish at the CWPA Championships. The Lakers fell to Harvard, Brown and St. Francis to end the year out.

How it Happened:
Harvard's offense continued to shine against the Lakers on Friday. They took a 6-0 lead in the first period of play before Allie Dombkowski and Marley Hanlon netted back-to-back goals to get the Lakers back into things. Harvard answered with their seventh goal of the game, but almost immediately Dombkowski found the net again. But from that point, Harvard scored 10 straight goals before Hanlon scored for the Lakers again in the fourth quarter. Eva Henneman also scored a goal, but it wasn't enough in the 20-5 loss.

Goal Scorers: Allie Dombkowski (2), Marley Hanlon (2) and Eva Henneman

Mercyhurst followed that up with a matchup against Brown. The game started out 3-1 after Hanlon scored her third goal of the weekend. But the Brown defense proved to be too much. Grace Brzyski and Dombkowski also scored goals in the first half, but the Lakers went quiet in the second half as Brown secured a 17-3 win.

The Lakers wrapped things up Saturday with their match against St. Francis. Mercyhurst took their first lead of the weekend with a Krista Domaracki goal to start the day. Victoria Mastrangelo and Henneman also netted goals in the first quarter, but the Red Flash held onto the lead by one point after the first. The Lakers continued to hang though. Dombkowski scored a hat trick in the second quarter, but St. Francis seemed to have an answer each time. At half, they led 9-8. But in the second half of play, Mercyhurst scored just three goals as St. Franics hung on for a 16-11 win.
