Lakers Earn Gold at Kerr Cup

Philadelphia, PA. – The Mercyhurst Rowing team traveled to Philadelphia to race at the Kerr Cup on the Schuylkill River. The team saw a couple of top-three finishes and a gold medal.

How it Happened

The first two boats to hit the water for the Lakers were the Men's 2nd varsity 4+, which consisted of "A" boat (C) Kerri Manning, (4) Brayden Pinkham, (3) Liam Wise, (2) Cole Bardeschewski, and (1) Tim Silverman. The "B" boat consisted of (C) Jax Bender, (4) Josh Cole, (3) Luke Ludwig, (2) Graham Torok, and (1) Shane Kelly. Both boats had a heat in the morning to qualify for the final, and the "A" boat went on to qualify for the final and ended up getting 2nd place behind Drexel.

The next boat to come down the course for the Lakers was the Women's Varsity 4+, which consisted of (C) Maddie Taylor, (4) Blythe Lyons, (3) Julia Schultz, (2) Grace Crounse, and (1) Thea Felsner. The boat finished in 2nd place in their heat, qualifying them for the final, where they secured 3rd place in the final ahead of Lehigh, Lasalle, and Monmouth.

The third to hit the water for the Lakers was the Women's Varsity 8+, which consisted of (C) Maddie Taylor, (8) Blythe Lyons, (7) Tabea Wieland, (6) Thea Felsner, (5) Julia Schultz, (4) Grace Crounse, (3) Katie Kontrik, (2) Hilde Wadlington, and (1) Jordane Hynes. The boat qualified for the finals, but fell to Drexel, Lasalle, Loyola, and Robert Morris.

The next boat to hit the water for the Lakers was the Men's Varsity 8+, which consisted of (C) Emily McCauley, (8) Ivan Katic, (7) Bogdan Protic, (6) Luka Loncar, (5) Ralph Kasow, (4) Marko Dojcinovic, (3) James Garoh, (2) Jovan Saric, and (1) Isaac Feldmann. The boat did not qualify for the final but ended up winning, securing 2nd place in the petite final ahead of Delaware, Lehigh, Loyola, and Maryland.

The last boat to hit the water for the Lakers was the Men's Varsity 4+, which consisted of (C) Seanna Zona, (4) Nathaniel Harris, (3) Matthew Wnek, (2) Oliver Stover, and (1) Anthony DePinto. The boat had a straight final and ended up winning their race and taking home the gold medal for the Lakers.

The Lakers will have two weekends off from racing before their Championship race at the DadVail Regatta starting on May 9th.
