4/18/2025 12:00:00 PM

Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team travels to the Motor City for a primetime matchup with the Detroit Mercy Titans on Saturday night.  With the regular season winding down, both sides are eager to end the season on a high note.

Series History

This will be the first ever matchup between the Lakers and the Titans.  For the Titans, this will be the fourth ever night game in program history.

Laker Outlook

Mercyhurst (1–10) narrowly fell to Le Moyne, 8–7, last weekend, showing major strides on both ends of the field. The Lakers are led offensively by graduate attackman Ethan Landymore, who enters Saturday with 26 goals and 5 assists. Senior Jérémi Phoenix-Lefebvre has matched him in total points with 18 goals and 13 assists, while Ryan Mahoney (19G, 10A) continues to be a go-to scorer and facilitator.

As a unit, Mercyhurst averages 9.91 goals per game and is converting 27.4% of their shots, with 62 total assists on the year. Defensively, goalie Tyler Moritzen has been a steady presence with 114 saves and a .479 save percentage.

The biggest challenge for the Lakers has come at the faceoff X, where they've won just 27.6% (83-of-301) of draws this season.

Scouting Detroit Mercy

The Titans (3–6) are coming off a 15–11 win over Wagner and have won two of their last three. Offensively, Detroit Mercy is paced by Chase Mahabir (14G, 8A) and Marcus Thundercloud (13G, 1A). The Titans average just 7.56 goals per game but are opportunistic and have found recent success in transition.

Goalie Ryan Richters has been solid in net with 115 saves and a .518 save percentage, while Detroit's defense has held opponents to under 10 goals in two of their last three games.

Despite their offensive struggles, Detroit has a slight edge in faceoffs, winning 45.3% (96-of-212) of draws, and is clearing at an 87.4% success rate.

Keys to the Game

  • Faceoff Efficiency – Detroit holds an edge at the X. Possession will be critical for both teams in a game likely to be decided by midfield play.

  • Capitalize on Opportunities – With both teams averaging under 10 goals per game, converting high-quality chances will be key.

  • Goaltending Battle – Both Moritzen and Richters are capable of game-changing performances. The edge in net may determine the outcome.

  • Limit Turnovers – With both teams struggling to generate offense at times, avoiding giveaways will be essential for building momentum.

Up Next

The Lakers will return home for the regular season finale against Wagner next Saturday.  Face-off is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
