DiBeradin’s Big Day Leads Mercyhurst to Win Over FDU

4/17/2025 6:30:00 PM

Teaneck, NJ.- The Mercyhurst baseball team kicked off their series in New Jersey with a bang on Thursday afternoon. The Lakers picked up a 10-6 win behind two homers from Landon DiBeradin and homers from Jayden Walker and Joey Trivisonno. DiBeradin himself accounted for six RBIs, including four coming from the Lakers first grand slam of the season.

How it Happened:
After the win over Youngstown State on Tuesday, the Lakers stayed hot. Landon DiBeradin opened the scoring in the second inning with a two-run homer that kicked off a five-run inning. In the second, Mercyhurst scored a run with three straight batters. The first came off of a Casey Smith RBI triple. Chris Juchno then drove him in with a sacrifice fly before Joey Trivisonno capped off the inning with a solo shot over the right field fence. Franklin Gomez got one run back for the Knights in the bottom portion of the inning with an RBI single.

Jayden Walker continued to show why he's one of the best hitters in the NEC in the third. He hit his eighth home run of the season to make it a 6-1 ball game. Jeremy Cheeseman brought FDU back within three after he answered with his own two-run homer. But Mercyhurst made the lead much more comfortable in the fifth after DiBeradin hit a grand slam to give Mercyhurst a lead that made things look like a football score. His second home run of the day made it a 10-3 game. But FDU continued to fight back. Diego Urreta hit a two-run blast to make it 10-5 and then in the sixth, they added another run on an RBI groundout. Matthew Delvaux then closed things out for the Lakers in the ninth with a pair strikeouts to secure game one for Mercyhurst.

Next Game:
The Lakers and Knights will play game two of their three game series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. All of the action can be caught on the NEC Front Row.
