Women’s Tennis Closes 2025 Campaign

Altoona, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's team officially closed out their 2024-2025 season this weekend with a pair of losses to Duquesne and St. Francis. The Lakers fell in a tightly contested match 2-5 to Duquesne and then dropped their match to St. Francis 6-1 on Sunday.
 
How it Happened:
Duquesne:
In doubles action, Kiersten Brown and Sara Bertolez fell in the first match to Denisse Arinez Guilarte and Sofia Lopez-Linares Perez 2-6. The Dukes clinched the doubles point with a 1-6 win over Kayla Dean and Roisin Murphy. The swept the doubles portion of the match when Sofia Serrano and Alexandra O'Brien took down the team of Daria Rogova and Andjela Mrvaljevic.
 
Kayla Dean kicked off singles with a big win in the No. 1 slot to tie things up at one with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Mila Badics. O'Brien retook the lead for Duquesne with a 2-6, 6-2, 4-6 win over Murphy before Rogova evened it up again with her 7-5, 6-2 win. But the Dukes clinched the victory with back-to-back wins. First Lopez beat Bertolez 2-6, 2-6 and Arinez took down Brown 3-6, 3-6.
 
St. Francis:
The Red Flash took a clean sweep of doubles. Dasha Chichkina and Diana Zuba beat Dean and Murphy 3-6. Reagen Mangan and Sara Jankovic took down Rogova and Mrvaljevic 4-6. Kelly Dowuona and Kally Kadzinski then beat Bertolez and Brown 4-6.
St. Francis closed the match with three straight wins in singles action. Chichkina beat Rogova 3-6, 4-6 in the No. 2 slot. Dowuona beat Murphy in a tight 2-6, 3-6 match. Mangan was able to close things out with a 3-6, 1-6 win over Bertolez. The Lakers lone point in the No. 6 slot as Mrvaljevic beat Morgan Tuffs.
