Erie, Pa.- Mercyhurst fell on Saturday afternoon as Stonehill evened up the series at a game a piece with their decisive 18-7 win. It sets up a winner take all game three tomorrow to decide who will take the first series between two squads. Despite the loss, Freshman
Ethan Adams and Senior
Jayden Walker continued to look impressive.
Â
How it Happened:
Stonehill wasted little time trying to get on the board after they fell in a 12 inning contest the day before. Sam Parks and Sean McGee got things rolling with back-to-back singles and then Senior
Daniel Thomas walked Aidan Cohall to load up the bases. Thomas proceeded to plunk the next batter to make it a 1-0 ball game. But just as quickly as he got himself in trouble, he was able to work out of it. He recorded three straight outs. The Lakers didn't notch their first hit until Walker hit a double to start the second inning. Walker tied things up after he scored when the Skyhawks picked off Adams at first to knot things. The game wasn't tied for long as Cohall started the next inning with a leadoff homer to retake the lead. Stonehill scored another three runs before the Lakers brought in
Nick Hamilton to relieve Thomas.
Â
Adams brought things a little closer in the fourth with a solo shot to make it a 5-2 game. But in the next half inning, Jack Thorbahn got that run back with a homer of his own. But Mercyhurst had a productive inning in the fifth that saw them retie the game. Walker brought in
Landon DiBeradin on an RBI single, Joey Trivisonno brought in Adams and Walker with a two RBI single and then he scored on a wild pitch to cap off a four-run inning. A pair of RBI singles from Grayson Sparr and Aidan Sengenberger helped the Skyhawks to regain an 8-6 advantage. But the game continued to be back and forth as DiBeradin brought in yesterday's hero,
Ranciel Ventura with an RBI single. But between the next two innings, Stonehill scored 10 runs on six hits including a Sengenberger grand slam to make it a mercy rule game. The Lakers went down in order in the bottom of eighth as Stonehill closed out game two with an 18-7 win.
