Hilton Head Island, SC.- Both Mercyhurst tennis teams closed out their spring break yesterday in South Carolina. The women end the trip with a 2-0 record after they took down Morningside in a 6-1 decision. The men were unable to grab a win on break after they fell 6-1 in their match against Morningside.

How it Happened:
Men's Tennis:
In the doubles portion of the match, the team of
Danylo Rekun and
Sviatoslav Koliadynskyi played in the No. 1 slot and dropped their match in a 6-2 decision to Mark Trenkle and Santiago Minetti.
Colm Schultz and
David Mengher also fell as Morningside clinched the doubles point. Lukas Cabue and Mykhaiko Polishchuk were able to grab a win in the No. 3 slot by a score of 7-5, however.

Rekun played in the No. 1 slot singles and fell in a 3-6, 6-4, 6-10 battle to Trenkle. Cabue picked up the lone win of the day in singles action for Mercyhurst in a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Marcos Menendez. Schultz also fell in a 3-6, 6-2, 7-10 battle with Alexis Diaz. Kolindynski lost 5-7, 4-6 and Derek Wisnes lost in a 1-6, 1-6 decision. Mengher closed things out in the No. 7 slot with a 4-6, 1-6 loss as the Lakers fell 6-1 to close out spring break.

Women's Tennis:
The Mercyhurst Women closed their spring break win a 6-1 win. The duo of
Kayla Dean and
Roisin Murphy remained dominant as they opened up the match with a 7-6 win in doubles action over Brooke Marshall and Line Jensen.
Daria Rogova and
Andjela Mrvaljevic also grabbed an easy 6-1 win, but it was the team of
Kiersten Brown and Sara Bertolez who clinched the doubles point for Mercyhurst with their 7-5 win over Sophia Guntren and Lidia Suarez.

In singles action, only Dean fell. She lost to Jensen in 2-6, 6-1, 10-12 decision. Rogova beat Marshall in dominating fashion with a 6-0, 6-1 win and Murphy followed it up with an equally impressive 6-0, 6-0 win, Bertolez beat Stefany Simplicio 6-1, 6-2 and in the No. 5 slot, Brown beat Guntren 6-4, 6-2. Mrvaljevic closed the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Suarez to complete the Lakers 6-1 win.

The women will next be in action on Tuesday, March 18
th when they take on a former PSAC foe in Edinboro at home. The men get back on the court on Thursday, March 13
th with a home match against new NEC foe, Binghamton.
