Men's Tennis Falls to Le Moyne at NEC Tennis Championships

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Mercyhurst men's tennis team traveled to New Jersey on Thursday to compete in the NEC Tennis Championships for the first time in program history. After showcasing strong performances against conference opponents, the Lakers found themselves entering the tournament as the 3rd seed. In the quarterfinal, the Blue and Green were slated to take on the Le Moyne Dolphins, the tournament's 6th seed.
 
In singles competition, Danylo Rekun gained an early 6-3 advantage on the first court before falling in the final pair of sets 6-4 and 6-1. On the second court, Lukas Cabue Valverde put in a dominant performance to open his match, winning 6-1. In the final pair of sets, he would eventually fall 6-1 and 7-5. Petar Belosevic opened his match with a 6-3 win on the third court before falling 7-6 in his second set thanks to a 7-4 tiebreaker. The match would end going unfinished in the final set despite Belosevic leading his opponent 5-4. Colm Schultz won his match in a tightly contested battle by scores of 7-5 and 7-6 with a 7-2 tiebreaker. Mykhailo Polishchuk was unable to earn a second point for the Lakers on the fifth court, falling 6-1 and 6-2. Nikola Radisic continued his strong season with an impressive 7-5 and 6-0 win on the sixth court.
 
In doubles competition, the Laker duo of Schultz and Belosevic kept their match close, falling 7-6 with a 7-2 tiebreaker. The second team of Rekun and Cabue managed to come out victorious for the Lakers, winning 7-5. The final Laker duo of Radisic and David Mengher also competed in a tight match, but fell 7-6 after a 7-5 tiebreaker gave the advantage to the Dolphins.
 
The Hurst ultimately fell to Le Moyne by a score of 4-2.
