Marietta, OH – The Mercyhurst Rowing Team opened their 2025 spring racing season against Marietta, Wisconsin, Dayton, and Adrian at the Marietta Invite. The team walked away with a few first and second finishes, helping them grab some momentum for the rest of the spring season.
How it Happened
The first boat on the water for the Lakers was the Women's Varsity 8+ and it consisted of (C) Madie Taylor, (8) Blythe Lyons, (7) Tabea Wieland, (6) Thea Felsner, (5) Julia Schultz, (4) Grace Crounse, (3) Katie Kontrick, (2) Hilde Wadlington, and (1) Nayila Harris. The Women's 8+ won their race with a time of 6:37.4 defeating Dayton.
The next boat on the water for the Lakers was the Women's Varsity 4+ and it consisted of (C) Madie Taylor, (4) Katie Kontrick, (3) Nayila Harris, (2) Anna Grossner, and (1) Jordane Hynes. The Women's 4+ fell to Dayton in their dual race with a time of 8:27.57.
The next two boats on the water for the Lakers were the Men's Varsity 4+ and the first boat consisted of (C) Keri Manning, (4) Isaac Feldman, (3) Liam Wise, (2) Josh Cole, and (1) Shane Kelly. Then next 4+ for the Lakers was a composite crew that consisted of (C) Jax Bender, Luke Ludwig, and Graham Torok. The Men's Varsity 4+ first boat finished in 2nd just behind Wisconsin with a time of 6:27.6. The composite crew finished just behind Adrian College with a time of 6:50.5.
The Men's 8's were the next boats on the water for the Lakers. The Men's Heavyweight 8+ was the first for the two and their boat consisted of (C) Seanna Zona, (8) Nathaniel Harris, (7) Matthew Wnek, (6) Lav Adamov, (5) Anthony DePinto, (4) Cole Bardeschewski, (3) Oliver Stover, (2) Ian Darling, and (1) Brayden Pinkham. The Heavyweight finished with a time of 5:58.6 just behind Marietta.
The last boat on the water for the Lakers was the Men's Lightweight 8+ and their boat consisted of (C) Emily McCauley, (8) Dusan Belic, (7) Bogdan Protic, (6) Luka Lontcar, (5) Ralph Kasow, (4) Ivan Katic, (3) Jovan Saric, (2) Marko Dojcinovic, and (1) James Garoh. The Lighweight 8+ finished in 2nd just behind Wisconsin with a time of 5:30.8 and ahead of Marietta.

The Men's Lightweight team will be back on the road next weekend and head to Princeton, New Jersey for the National Collegiate Lightweight Invite on March 29th. Meanwhile the Men's Heavyweight and Women's Team will have a weekend off before their next race on April 6th.
