Dover, De.- It took just two series for Mercyhurst to take their first ever NEC series in their inaugural Division I season. The Lakers earned that series win this afternoon with a 12-10 win over Delaware State. In the matchup, six different Lakers recorded at least one RBI, and the team hit a season-high 14 hits. The Lakers are back to .500 in NEC play early in the season as they sit at 3-3.

How it Happened:
After hitting two home runs yesterday,
Jayden Walker remained hot for Mercyhurst. He gave the team their first lead of the day with an RBI single to earn his fourth RBI of the series. The lead didn't last long as the Hornets were able to take a 2-1 lead after they loaded the bases. But
Brandon Arnold worked himself out of the jam and limited the damage to just two. In the top of the second, the Lakers took the lead back after
Ranciel Ventura reached base on an error and
Landon DiBeradin crossed plate for the fourth time in the last two games. Then
Chandler Powell scored on
Chris Juchno sacrifice fly. They followed that up with a five hit, five run third inning. It was kicked off with a two-run blast from
Ray Altmeyer to put them up 5-2. Three batters later,
Ranciel Ventura hit a two RBI double and then Juchno hit an RBI double of his own.
Â
But Delaware State continued to fight back. They had a five hit inning of their own that drove in four runs. Alec Rodriguez kicked it off with a home run. But in the fourth, DiBeradin hit an RBI double, and Walker scored on a wild pitch to push the lead back to 10-6. In the seventh, Delaware State made a late push, and they tied the game up at 10. But
Jacob Bazala was able to get himself out of a bases loaded jam with back-to-back strikeouts. Altmeyer and Powell quickly gave Mercyhurst the lead back with a pair of RBI singles. Bazala earned the final six outs to preserve the lead and his first win of the season.
