Lewisburg, Pa.- Mercyhurst returned to the water this weekend when they competed in the Bucknell Invitational. The Lakers were unable to grab a win, but they saw some solid play in all aspects.
How it Happened:
The Lakers kicked off the weekend against St. Francis. Both teams got off to a quick start as they combined for nine goals in the first period of play. The Red Flash went up 2-0 before
Freya Green and
Allie Dombkowski knotted things up. The Red Flash quickly retook the lead before
Grace Tirak tied it back up. Dombkowski netted the final goal for the Lakers in the first period of play, but Megan Marlin scored a pair to retake the lead for good.
Eva Henneman scored the lone goal of the second for the Lakers. The final goals of the day for Mercyhurst came from Dombkowski and
Krista Domaracki in the 13-8 loss.
Against La Salle, the first period was also fast paced. La Salle scored first before Dombkowski tied it up.
Bri Allstun and Tirak also recorded goals to tie the game at three before La Salle broke the tie to make it 4-3. They added to that lead by scoring three straight to open the second quarter before Allstun stopped the bleeding. The Lakers grabbed a pair of goals in the third with Allstun and
Grace Brzyski scoring them. Two more goals from Allstun, two goals from
Victoria Mastrangelo and Dombkowski helped to make the score a 14-10 final.
The Lakers opened day two against Bucknell who ran away with the matchup. Bucknell scored the first seven goals of the game before Dombkowski scored with four minutes to go in the second.
Brean Jordan,
Marley Hanlon and
Molly Langridge grabbed the other three goals for Mercyhurst in the 13-4 loss.
In the Lakers final game, they took on Mount St. Mary's for the second time in the young season. Mount St Mary's started things off with a 3-0 lead before Hanlon got Mercyhurst on the board. The Lakers didn't get another point on the board until there were two minutes left in the half as Allstun made the score 8-2. Mount St. Mary's opened the half with another 3-0 run before Hanlon and Allstun scored back-to-back. Jordan and Allstun tacked on two more goals before the end of the third.
